Photograph. Write. Publish.
I am super excited to offer this one-of-a-kind camp for children ages 5-18 this summer. Expanding on my Snap Happy Photo Project, I have added a writing component, which coupled with your child's images, will be made into a hardcover book through the Faerie Treehouse Press.
Jason Smith, published author and professor of English, will be introducing students to various types of writing, from journaling to poetry. I will be teaching basic photography skills that can be used to effectively tell a visual story.
We will teach your child how to document this summer through photography, along with a bit of writing to complement each image. By the end of the 5-week camp, your family will have a hardcopy keepsake of this unique time in history.
$250 per camper
Lens & Pens will be delivered using Zoom and Google Classroom, with sections by age. As parents, we are especially cognizant of the importance of privacy and the online activity of children. The classrooms are by invitation only and are continually monitored.
Lessons are provided both via live Zoom calls and recordings posted on Google Classroom. All camp guides will be available for Q&A/troubleshooting via live Zoom or email. Once a week, both Jason and Meredith will be live, via Zoom, to answer any questions students may have and to provide feedback on each assignment. Mattie joins in on private consultations as needed.
It is important to us that the lessons and platform work well for all of the students, so we will modify as needed. We will deliver activities in both text and video to accommodate diverse learning styles and use Zoom for live chat with a separate meeting for each age group.
No photographer/writer left behind!
Any camera may be used, including mobile phones and iPads/tablets.
No significant writing experience is needed for this program as the writing assignments are tailored to each student’s abilities and needs.
